Unhappy Tried to install windows, now am having trouble getting back to suse 9

So,
I wanted to install windows on a partition that I had left open because i wanted to do things like sync with my sony ericson phone and run a copy of matlab that I have and a couple other things. well, this attempt failed, for some reason windows would not install. This however is not my biggest concern. My problem is that I cant get back to my suse 9 intallation. I insert Disk 1, and go to rescue system. it displays a "Rescue login" prompt.
I tried to login as root and then it simply displays "Rescue:~ #' prompt. I've heard/read about 'grub-install' so I tried that, with the parameter of /dev/hda. this gives me

/dev/root: Not found or not a block device.

Can someone tell me what to do next? I would very greatly appreciate it.

Mak

Thank you so much!
I basically did as you said...
went to 'install', then 'repair existing system', did the automatic option, then when it got to the boot loader, I apparently had to reactivate it. it was pretty easy with suse. I seem to be completely back on track.

Man, I was pretty scared there. Dont think i'll be loading windows again.
once again, thanks and great night to you.

Which is a reason why you should backup your system before doing such major operations. Or having a seperate hard disk to store precious data.
