Thunderbird error SUSE 9.1

I get the following error when trying to start Thunderbird from the command line;

bigdaddy:/usr/local/bin/thunderbird # ./thunderbird
Xlib: connection to ":0.0" refused by server
Xlib: Invalid MIT-MAGIC-COOKIE-1 key

(thunderbird-bin:10179): Gtk-WARNING **: cannot open display:

I installed as root and it of course runs when I log in as root but not as a user. Any words of wisdom appreciated.

Its not thunderbird's fault. Its the display manager, who is refusing connections. You are trying to run an app on other users' screen. This is the "connection to 0:0 refused by server" thing.

Try to log in as a normal user and run the prog as normal user. root is just to install it.

Sorry, I wasn't clear in my description, this error occurs only when logged in as a user, it runs fine logged in as root.
