SUSE net install with Telus
Hey all-- if you are not using Telus in Canada you may not be able to help, but other ISPs might use a similar system so please read anyway. :)
Anyway, I am trying to do a SUSE network install. However, the installer cannot connect with the ftp server. Now, I am fairly certain that the reason for this is because Telus requires you to register each computer with them by going to a certain website by which it takes your MAC address (I think). The new computer, as I have never used it here before, is not registered. Is there some kind of workaround? The only thing I can think of is to get a router, but I can't really afford one at the moment. So, is there any other way around this? My other system is running Win2K and I suppose there might be a way to use it as a server but I have no clue how to do this, besides the fact that I only have one monitor for the two systems at the moment. :) I'm always happy to get a free computer, even if I can't afford a few necessary peripherals at the moment. :) |
Would it work if you run a system from the cd? Like knoppix?
Run knoppix, go online, register at the site and then reboot on suse ftp install. |
