ok, ive read everywhere that suse 9 boasts its new "twice as fast booting time". i dont see any speed difference over 8.2 or mandrake 9.1. theni read this was only for the 2.6.x kernel SUSE 9 ships with, but not installed, so i have to build the kernel myself.
so, i installed suse 9, and no twice as fast boot time, so i go looking for the 2.6.x kernel on my 3 cds. i read some of the documentation that comes with my suse 9 personal, and it said the it ships with the 2.6.x kernel, and you can't find it in yast, you have to look on your 3rd cd. but i looked on all 3 cds, and can't find ANY kernel source, not even for the kernel it ships with.
so my question is, where are the two kernel source files ? the default kernel and the 2.6.x beta kernel is supposidly ships with?
ok, i found this out so far: SuSE 9 personal comes with NO KERNEL AT ALL, which sux. SuSE works with everything except my video card (still, another post though). so maybe those intel i810 video card drivers will work on 9.0.....but to use the drivers, i need a kernel installed...and none of the kernels will compile right.
where can i download the 2.6.x kernel or the standard stock kernel for suse 9 ?
Maybe you should wait until the final version of the kernel comes out in a month. The beta version might have bugs. If you want the official version go to http://www.kernel.org/ .
thanks a bunch guys. well, like i posted, amazon.com says for suse personal, it boots 2 times faster, and i just figured out (those unfair reviews) that ALL the reviews i read, were for pro version...sux.
but thanks for the links guys. now if someone will help me with my video resolution issues *wink*.
so what can i expect from the 2.6.x kernel ? any speed improvements ? i noticed my suse 9 personal doesnt boot "twice as fast" as boasted, is this because its personal edition, and pro is the only one with the 2.6.x kernel ?
