SuSE 9.1 Pro, mouse goes haywire on KVM switch
 

I have SuSE 9.1 Pro (32 bit) sharing keybd mouse monitor via KVM with various other PCs.

Often, when I use the KVM to switch to another PC, then back to the Suse box, the mouse has gone totally bonkers, moving an random and 'clicking' buttons at random. Kb is fine though.

This happens with 2 different boxes (tried putting 9.1 on both). It didnt happen with Mandrake using the same hardware, and I've never had similar problems with any of my Windows boxes. Looks like a Suse problem to me.

Mouse is a MS Intellimouse explorer; its a PS2 mouse.

Any ideas?

PS I too would like to see a SuSE forum here. Perhaps it could be labelled 'unofficial' until such time as people from SuSE officially endorse it. Certainly, seeing the number of subject lines here with 'Suse' in them, its needed.

This person had the same problem and added the kernel boot option 'psmouse.proto=imps' to the lilo.conf append= line. His mouse may be different, but something like this may be worth a try.

I tried that, and other settings for the mouse protocol, all to no avail. What *did* work was changing the mouse; I had been using one with a USB->PS2 convertor - as do many mice these days. Reverting to an old intellimouse with genuine PS2 connector and no wheel solved the problem.

I can only believe this is a bug somewhere in mouse support in linux/suse/x11, because this never happens when switching between Windows systems on the same KVM. Anyway, problem solved.

You know, I had the same wild-mouse problem for months and it became worse when I added another Linux box to my KVM, which has four ports on it. There are two Linux boxes, and two 'doze boxes.

I've tried the ctrl-alt stuff and the little patches, all to no avail. Then I realized that I'd never PLUGGED IN the KVM box to its power supply. I mean, why do *that*? All the little lights went on regardless of whether I'd plugged in the 9-volt power, and who needs yet another plug to account for? So I left it unplugged, which worked fine with the 'doze boxes.

After rooting around in my study I finally found the right AC adapter, plugged it in, and VOILA!!! No more Krazy Mouse!

Here's my hypothesis: everyone who says their KVM switch "works fine" or whose problem went away after editing their startup files *also* managed to plug in their KVM's power supply.

So Plug In your KVMs.

Power to the KVM box is not a solution!
 

I have a new KVM which had it's power adaptor plugged in from the beginning, and SuSE 9.2 still had the problem, even with other changes to the X11 setup for the mouse.

Adding psmouse.proto=bare fixed mine.
