SUSE 9.1 DVD Playing and REALAUDIO /KDE

My SUSE 9.1 is now 100% working --- Everything -- Scanning, Windows share, SAMBA etc etc.

I had one Minor niggling problem -- after installing XINE again to get DVD playing I JUST couldn't get the Real audio plugin to work with KDE KONQUEROR. It did with FIREFOX and GALEON but not on KONQ. I Know it's quite trivial but it was bugging me -- I like my machines to be 100% working.

Anyway what I did was to do a CLEAN install ( I know all the things I had to do after install so it didn't take long this time).

Now instead of Uninstalling all the SUSE supplied XINE parts I simply downloaded and installed LIBDVDCSS, LIBXINE1, WIN32CODEC,XINE-UI over the top of the existing XINE.

Download from http://cambuca.ldhs.cetuc.puc-rio.br/xine/

This site has the LIBDVDCSS which the old German one can't distribute anymore.

DVD playing worked perfectly, The Real Audio still worked ( Like listening to BBC radio at http://www.bbc.co.uk ) and everything else is fine as well including all the SAMBA Shares, Network browsing etc. Windows users also have access to Files and the printers I have on my Windows box work fine from the LINUX network.

I've got 4 Machines all running SUSE 9.1 now and they all work 100% perfectly so for me this Distro is as good as it gets.

The only Software I paid for was the LINUXANT Wireless Network card drivers ( 19 USD and well worth the price considering the time I'd saved). I'm using a LINKSYS WPC54G 54g wireless card with a Belkin 54g Wireless access point. Worked straight out of the box.

So for me SUSE 9.1 is great --especially with the 2.6 Kernel.

Thanks for this post! I'll have to wait till I get home to try it out, but I was playing with the DVD player capability last night and didn't have much success. You addressed one of the questions I had with it, and hopefully this will help me get the rest going.

this may also help my fellow newbies, I was having Major problems installing non-suse RPMs with yast2 . I stumbled onto the the fact that if you download the RPM with konquerer, yast2 installs the package fine. Ive tried this with firefox, and yast2 cries . anyhow, i hope this helps.
cheers

Bruno Buys, the answer ot your question is a big, fat YES! I just did it, and everything works great! I just tested my Pirates of the Carribean DVD and it's playing just perfectly.

Now, my only question is, how do I get the Quicktime codecs installed so I can watch the Hyperspace videos on starwars.com?!

Maybe this will help:
http://rpm.pbone.net/index.php3/stat....i386.rpm.html

If it doesn´t, search again in rpm.pbone.
