SuSE 9.1 DVD convert to cds

Anybody know how i can take a SuSE 9.1 DVD iso and split it so I can make cds out of them?

Caeda 05-04-2004 12:33 PM

No, you cant split it. Must mean you found one of those iso images that float around. Keep in mind they are illegal since suses disks have non-free software on them which is why they dont distribute iso images of the disks.

ok but you're not helping me and obviously they can be split into smaller disks. if a mandrake dvd can do it then so can a suse dvd. please reply if you know what you are talking about.

"ok but you're not helping me and obviously they can be split into smaller disks"

Or maybe you should pay a little bit more attention to this issue. Suse, is not mandrake. Suse, has both an installation DVD, complete and ready to go. And Installation CD's, complete and ready to go. Suse does not distribute iso images. They also use their own system for creating and protecting their disks so that.
A. Downloaded files cannot be compiled into a single or multiple install disks.
B. Install disks cannot be altered, changed, updated or corrupted to allow people to make their own disks.

Each disk has its own bootable, readable, special script/command file directory made by suse and ONLY by suse that tells the installer what disk your on, what packages there are, wether you got pro or personal, if its the cd or dvd installer, if there are more disks.. dependencies.. blah blah blah.

Now if you take this with just a little bit of brain power...

The dvd has a few directories full of files upon it, WHICH, tell the computer that yes indeedy this is a Suse 9.1 DVD. That the install is contained on 1 double sided dvd. And that all the packages listed in blah blah are on the one disk and no swapping is necessary.

So, when you split the disk. You either end up with a cd that thinks its a dvd or a cd thats junk because the sizes and checksums turn up wrong when the installer boots.

Now. I remind you a second time.

Suse DOES NOT DISTRUBUTE ISO IMAGES. Any and all iso images currently available on the web would end up being someone's copy of the DVD that suse has sent them, wether it be beta or the full version. This makes any and all USE of the iso image. ILLEGAL. So please take you "please reply if you know what you are talking about." and stick it. As no one here needs to get involved in your attempt at software piracy. I'll be reporting the thread to the moderators so they can lock/remove it so that linuxquestions does not get in trouble for stupid people like you.

You can't split it up most likely as the iso image is an image of the Suse DVD which would require you to most likely rewrite the installer script so it would know that its split among several cd's instead of a dvd.

It wasn't designed to be split up and I would ask at this time you should seek Suse support if you need this to be separated into cd's. If this is an illegal iso you obtained which is against Suse's license agreement, well, your outta luck as no member here will help in the piracy of software, warez, etc.

that is really funny, i mean the attitude that is.

I am a paying club member to mandrake linux. but sue me if i found a bittorrent link on the internet for the DVD. how many of you people have downloaded mp3s?

xodustrance 05-04-2004 05:39 PM

Aye, but linux distributors arent charging you a $18 price tag per cd, nor do they have a monopoly forcing you to pay that, like the RIAA. Free versions, pay versions. They're a good linux software publisher, pay for it, or dont use it. It hurts the community, and more so, suse. Buck the system, fine... Do buck linux. Its been good to you.

ok i have the right to do what i wanna do with my bandwidth... actually SuSE were never bankrupt like Mandrake and considering SuSE got bought by Novell i'm sure there's plenty money, but ok getting a friends DVD-RW external drive tomorrow.

consider this problem solved thanks.

Suse doesn't offer ISO downloads so if you did, its piracy and we don't associate with such things, as our rules indicate and you agreed to when registering.

And MP3's have nothing to do with this issue at this moment in time, asking if others download doesn't justify you pirated software from Suse.

And to tell you the truth, the only MP3's I personally download are the one's that bands actually offer to download without charging, etc. Probably why I'm approaching over 1,000 cd's in my collection these days.

I've reported this post to be closed, as you basically admitted to software piracy. Anyone don't agree with this rule, take it up with the site admin, as the rules indicate. These forums are not setup to help with such actions that are deemed illegal by law, etc.

Regards.
