SuSE 9.1 cpufreqd no longer loads
Hi
I've just run an YOU - my machine was out of action for a while. That's installed the kernel 2.6.5-7.75-default . Now the darn cpu is stuck at 800MHz and won't throttle to 1800MHz. This used to happen with SUSE 9, but was fine when I upgraded to 9.1 - until the last update :( I have an Athlon 64 DTR 3000+ running on a K8T800 mobo. I get an error message in /var/logs/boot.msg: Starting cpufreqd Error: Could not open file for writing: /sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu0/cpufreq/scaling_governor startproc: exit status of parent of /usr/sbin/cpufreqd: 1 done<notice>exit status of (splash postfix kbd cups cpufreqd) is (0 0 0 0 7) Failed services in runlevel 5: cpufreqd I also get this error in dmesg powernow-k8: BIOS error: numpst must be 1 which if I remember correctly was the problem that used to exist in the 2.4.x kernel in SUSE 9, but everything was working perfectly with my previous kernel linux-2.6.4-54.5 /proc/acpi/processor/CPU0/info shows throttling: no and /proc/cpufreq is empty checked the directory /sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu0/ and there's nothing there at all. Does anyone have some ideas on what I might be able to do or what I should be checking for? TIA ws |
take a look at this:
http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi...suse+powersave Basically, suse no longer use cpufreqd. There is a new daemon called powersaved, which is a combined acpid and cupfreqd daemon. you cannot have cpufreqd and powernow running at the same time |
Thanks - that put me on the right path!
