SuSE 8.2 Install Problems... disk can't boot
 

I'm trying to go from 8.1 Pro to 8.2 Personal because of my problem with glib, but that's a different story. I created both a boot cd on a cd-rw and 4 floppies from the modules, while in linux. When I get to the bootloader, I choose to boot from floppy and boot options, I put the linux install=ftp://blahblahblah (don't want to write the entire addy cuz it's long) and when I press enter, I get...

This is SuSE disk module 1. Boot disk cannot load. :-(

When I tried it with my cd, I tried the same thing but it had an error message ... I think something was missing. Then I tried to just go to "Installation" without any options. When I try to install from a network, ftp, http, etc. I find that the module isn't loaded but when I go to load a module, I see a huge list and then I am required the enter options for it. I'm confused. Could anyone help me? Thanks.

When you created your boot floppy and boot CD did you mix 8.1 and 8.2 software onto the floppy and CD?

No. I got it working. Took a while to figure out, but it works now. I have another question though. SuSE 8.2 seems to come with a different version of Gnome. Now it seems very similar to KDE but I liked the other look better, the one with the 2 small bars at the top and bottom. Is there a way to get that back? Or should I start downloading the files at the gnome website and figure out a way to install 2.2.1 of gnome?

The differences in the way Gnome looks probably has more to do with the way SuSE set up the default look than with differences between the Gnome versions. I recommend that you experiment with the Gnome configuration settings first to see if you can recreate the look that you like.

hehe thanks. I'll try that. I guess it's easier to do that than try to make KDE look like a mac osx desktop...
