Suse 8.1 Professional

I installed the first 2 disks of SuSE 8.1 Professional. This is the second time i have installled it. Well this time when i log otu there is not a button to shutdown or there is not the option to chose kde or Gnome. where did it go and how do i get it back

You should have other user (beside root):

Open : Administration -> YaST2 module -> System -> Editor for /etc/sysconfig files -> Desktop:
Display manager = kdm
Display manager starts xserver = yes
...

You may need to run as root:
SuSEconfig
init 5 (or reboot)

Thanks so much , i love using linux and i oculdnt figure out where the restart and shutodwn buttons where..

login as root in a terminal and type

shutdown -h now

or

reboot
