SuSE 8.0 Professional -> ServerConfig
hi
I just installed SuSE 8.0 professional and I would like to run an HTTPd, FTPd, DNS etc, on this machine I switched from RedHat 7.2 to SuSE 8.0 and in RedHat there is such a thing as a ConfigurationScreen Does SuSE has a similar this (no, not YaST) where I can configure my DNS, Apache, pure-FTPd, etc... or otherwise, if anyone could help me out to get me on my way to configure these servers in another way, feel free to post... :-) Thanks for your time Thomas |
I always prefer the manual way..
Read the readme file ...locate the config file of the server and edt it manaully... httpd - apache is very easy to configure manaully, while proftpd has a user graphic interface you can use, DNS.. i havn't tried it yet.. |
The only utility SuSE brings is yast2. If you don't like it, do it manually.... Just choose a ftp server you like and then go with the documentation it came with. That's the best way to go.
The configuration of DNS isn't the easiest but the hardest either. All you need for DNS is the package bind, which should already be installed. on www.tldp.org is a DNS howto. I don't have experience with all this, so I can't help you further |
The best to do it on SuSE if you don't like doing manually thru the config files is to use webmin
|
Administering SuSE
For administering SuSE (or any other distro) download a copy of Webmin, www.webmin.com. I use it and I find it superb at setting things up.....
