Suggestion on a different distro like PCLinuxOS

Sorry if this is the wrong place to ask this sort of question.

I was a mandriva user until things started to go down hill. I soon switched to PCLinuxOS, and for the most part, I am happy with it.
Call it a linux fever, or just curious, but what other distros are out there that are like PCLinuxOS?

I almost kept openSuse, but was concerned about how to get packages installed on your system.
Also, I don't think they have all the same programs that I tend to depend on.

Mainly they are:

easytag (MP3 editor)
soundkonverter (converting audio formats/bit rate)
Audacity (editing music, using silence, echo, whatever)
Asunder (ripping CD's into MP3 on the computer)
Kaffeine
DVD files to be able to play DVD's on the PC.

I'm sure most distros have K3b, and showfoto, VLC media player, etc.

Anyone using a distro that may match what I'm after?

I would consider Linux Mint. Not familiar with easytag, but I believe everything else is in the Linux Mint and Debian repos.

I like PCLinuxOS but I wish they would go back to an official Xfce edition as I really dislike KDE. One of its strong points is being able to quickly and easily remaster your installation and put it on a USB drive. This gives you a configured installable backup handy when you need it. Just about any KDE distro will have the software you seek, it just depends on which platform you want it based on. I've played with SolydX recently and it has promise and they also make SolydK which is the KDE variant...

I installed Linux Mint, and will install this either today or over the weekend. Mageia, or whatever (which had people from Mandriva) didn't have a lot of the softwares I was after. Opensuse was missing some, or had problems installing them. Plus, I had two places to go to get them, a packman website or their own software on the computer.

PCLinuxOS is nice, but sometimes I just enjoy trying new ones. I checked on their website, what packages they have, and it looks like they have what I need, so I am looking forward to trying it out.

I will let you know what I think, thank you for the suggestion.

PCLinuxOS is available with MATE, a Gnome 2 port. And LXDE :

If you like PCLOS, which manages to be rolling-release without being bleeding-edge, have a look at Foresight. Not many people know it exists, but it's been going since 2005 and has 20,000 users registered at its forum.

Foresight is having problems or undergoing maintenance with KDE.

I have installed Linux Mint 15, despite how busy i've been, and I LOVE IT so far. At this with linux mint 15, its clean looking. I love that! Plus, it booted up soooo fast. Typically I turn on the pc, see it loading all this stuff, then booting up into KDE. This booted up to it immediately.

May have time later today to see how it goes.

Maybe Razor QT is in your future.

Thanks for recommending LinuxMint, JWJones!

It basically has everything I need or want, including easytag. It has such a nice clean look, and the bootup was FAST. So far, this is my favorite.

I have one question that I will have to ask in another topic.

Thanks again!
