Slackware Linux 10.0 - many problems... Current: No keyboard!

I recently installed Slackware 10.0 from the 6 cds packet I bought.
One problem I faced, is that while I was installing it, the installation process would freeze occasionaly. I had some very bad moments, because, even when I finally installed the Slackware, it also got frozen again...
Afterwards, after the crash ... an fsck should be done, which was imbossible (!) because it also froze the system, => I couldn't see the boot process ending normally...
I rejected the ext2 filesystem and all the usual Linux fss, because they do lot of time to fsck, and put XFS, which is very very very fast in "fscking", so I could continue... Not to mention I lost lots of data in my hard disk!
When I managed to have my pc running, with safe movements, I did make menuconfig, to see the kernel 2.6.x the default, with experimental drivers and so on, ENABLED...
ok, to reach an end, the system sould crash in large disk activities:
for example, [/etc#> grep -R XYZ ... or [/home/me> tar zxvf /tmp/oldhome.tar.gz ......
I got pissed of with these, I downladed the kernel 2.4.27 from kernel.org and compiled it. And now, I have suddenly no keyboard!
My bus mouse (m$ optical explorer or such) is lighting, but the keyboard is not working, in the console mode... no login....
I revert back to the instable 2.6 kernel, and it works, but the mouse not.
Any ideas?

PS.: I just came to linuxquestions, I will propably get tommorow with my .config file...
