Single floppy distro with Xserver
 

The youth pastor at my church is trying to set up a LAN party, but we have borrowed computers to do it with. Therefore, we can't wipe the HDs, but we need Linux boxes with an Xserver to do an Xterminal arrangement. Perhaps Knoppix would work, but that may CDs seems like a waste, where a single floppy could be used. Is there any premade floppy distro available with a VESA Xserver and good net card support? Or do I need to hack one myself? I have seen 2diskx, but I don't need all of those apps.

For the application you are looking for, I would say just download knoppix. I mean you can easily get CD-R's for a quarter a piece, so whats the big deal with downloading knoppix?

Linux Kernel... check.
Base system... check.
X server... check.
X apps... check...

1.44 Meg Floppy... check.

Who said anything about apps? Don't tell me it's impossible-look at how much toms, or FREESCO, or Mu fit on one disk. I don't need any X apps-thats why I need network support. All I need is an Xserver-I have access to a 3Ghz box that can serve as a terminal server. Yes, that's not much, but hey, it beats nothing.

Get QNX, Theres a demo disk that fits on a 1.44meg floppy FOR REALY. Go here and get the network card version http://qnx.projektas.lt/qnxdemo/qnx_demo_disk.htm and your on your way. QNX is a Unix varient, and it does run linux and other unix apps, but like FBSD, takes a little hacking. (not too much, so if your somewhat newbish, no need to worry, just learn as you go) The demo disk is outdated, But it literaly comes with a GUI, a Web browser, with java support, a terminal, A file browser, and a taskbar. A display configurer, and a NOTEPAD! It can dial in through PPP, or a few network cards (tho relatively old cards) but you have to either have the Network Card version, or the Dial Up card version.
