I am having trouble coding php on the knoppix live cd distro. Is there some type of set up procedure that need to be done before programming php. Where do you program the php.....console? I have tried to follow some online instructions but I keep getting the error root permmissions denied...what does this mean and how do I fix it?
It could be because your running from CD. A cd is classed as read only so the distro wont be able to save to it. This may be causing the access problem as you wont have permission to right data to the cd because its read only.
If you're serious about web development then you must install a distro on a hard disk and setup PHP and Apache with MySQL if you need it.
Knoppix is essentially targetted at casual/home desktop users. A developer would/should not rely on a LiveCD for development work.
You may also need to install certain packages/libraries before you can develop in PHP and these packages might not be present in Knoppix. You might still have to install to the hard disk in any case even if you plan to continue using Knoppix.
I really do not plann to develop much in the future. I just have one simple application that needs to be done in linux. How do install it to a hard disk and setup apache, php, etc. Could you give me some step by step instructions?
