Seeking lightweight liveCD with truecrypt and xfce or lxde desktop

Hi Folks,

Do you know of any distros that meet these specifications? Your suggestions would be very much appreciated.

It sounds complicated... lol

I'm currently running Windows XP. Would you be able to run the script from the Live CD?

damgar 12-18-2009 07:49 PM

I think slax will do it. Of all the live distros slax was by far the fastest I tried. It can be run from usb or cd.

linus72 12-18-2009 07:53 PM

Oh
yes you must run the script from ubuntu/xubutnu,etc system or livecd

the script is almost automatic
you only have to choose what apps, etc

it takes a few times till you know how to do it without issues but its
pretty easy and you can learn alot

getting ready to test lxde iso I made now
400MB with easycrypt/gdecrypt
how do I install truecrypt?

its not in repos?

Does Slax have a nice little icon in the menu that says "create CD image" or something similar?

Check out their website. http://www.slax.org/ It's a distro that is intended to be run as a live distro, not as a try out. If you run it on usb you can save your data on to the usb thumb drive, so it works like a hard drive based install. In addition it is as quick as some of the standard distros available. I'm not sure what you are wanting the live distro for, but if it's to do more than just taste various distros then I would definitely test drive it. Live cd's are generally going to be slower than the installed version (in my experience) so it's kind of misleading. Slax was just QUICK from the get go. It's based on slackware like ubuntu is based on debian. My experience with slax led to me going full time with slackware which I absolutely do not regret. The instructions for getting up and going with slax are on the website.

Debian can be put on usb very easy
download the img file
http://cdimage.debian.org/cdimage/re.../i386/usb-hdd/
then just do
Code:

dd if=image-you-downloaded.img of=/dev/sdx

Yes, I know of Knoppix. It's a very nice distro, and I've been using it for a few years now. But once in awhile I like to explore my options, and discover new distros. :)

No doubt

if'n you wanna boot many from one hd partition or usb holler back and I'll put you down
its easy stuff

Remember that Linux is mostly text files running around carrying out commands
nothin complicated
just editable text files and scripts
