rpm upgrade documentation RH8 -> RH9 fails

I've upgraded RH8.0 to RH9. So far so good. Now I picked up the documentation ISO and tried to rpm the getting started guide, installation guide, ... which one usually can acces through the Gnome menu item Documentation. But rpm just hangs during the installation (17% through the installation stage), nothing happens. No damage seems to have been done but I am unable to rpm -e the old guides, or rpm -Uvh --force the new ones. Anyone got an idea how to do this?

And now a day and a reboot later, it does work!
I don't understand. but it does seem rpm has got
a bit flaky since the upgrade from RH8.0 to RH9.
Time for --rebuilddb ?
