rpm issues

hi, im using a rh8.0-2.4.18-27.8.0 on a i386.
i have some rpms, and i try to install it using rpm -ivh <whatever>, and it gives me this kind of a warning :
"user/group dude does not exist - using root".

and the package doesnt get installed, while some of them do.
can someone pls tell me what this warning msg means?

thnx.

well it means what it says... the user and group that the rpm is set to install under doesn't exist. either you're using dodgy rpms or maybe you've been playing with your own system configuration too much? add an extra "v" to that set of options and see if you can see what the group and user actually is.

hmm, ok, thnx for replying, i think the closest answer is "been playing too much" ... will look at it ltr.
thnx man.
