Root DNS Server w/ GUI for a hosting company

I own a small hosting company. My dev team built a pretty solid hosting platform over the years but one feature that I have been struggling with is setting up a hosted ROOT DNS server(s)for my customers. Ideally I'd like to setup 2 NS servers utilizing 1 interface for my customers to login and create, edit, etc.. their DNS records.

I have the infrastructure and backbone to support this but before I present this at my next Dev team meeting I figured I would reach out to the community and see if there are any Linux Distro's that cater to this type of scenario? Is it better to install BIND and build a custom GUI, etc.. or is there a distro that is already half baked or even fully ready to deploy with minimal effort? What linux distros are best to use? so on and so forth.

I'm not 100% sure I know which way that I want to go with this but please give me your input. Good, bad, suggestions..... I'm all ears.

Thanks for your valuable input.

Hi,

I guess you don't mean the actual root dns servers, but the zones your dns is authoritative for.
If that's the case you can give webmin a try.
You can also use commercial products like cPanel and Plesk
