OK...quite a long story this. Reinstalled my 2nd system with RH9 the other day and all was running fine. This system dual-boots with WinXP. XP is on HDD1 and had BootMagic to control the boot process. Linux is installed on the second HDD and Lilo is placed on the 1st sector of the Linux partition. Anyway, was using Up2Date a couple of nights ago and it hung halfway through installing the updates. I left it over night but it was still sitting there in the morning, forcing me to press the restart button. On rebooting the boot sequence got as far as Checking Module dependencies....OK the threw up this error :
/boot contains a file system with errors, check forced fsckext3. Illegal triply indirect block found while reading bad blocks inode.
UNEXPECTED INCONSISTENCY : RUN fsk MANUALLY (ie without -a or -p options)
An error occurred during the file system check Dropping to shell...
Anyway, not knowing what to do i thought I'd just reformat and reinstall. This I did using Partition Magic, something I've done on several ocassions before. Install seemed to go OK, but on rebooting I got exactly the same error in the same place. OK, reformat and try again....same error OK, maybe the HDD has crapped-out on me...it is about 5 years old....just happen to have another lying around with an old XP installation on it (as you do ). Reformat that one, set-up the Linux partitions in Partition Magic and reinstall. Same error in exactly the same place. What I haven't tried is letting the Linux installation delete the partitions and then make new ones from there. I am completely at a loss with this one, so any ideas would be welcome....I'm gonna try some different permutations of formatting/partition deleteing etc to see if anything will work....
