rh8.0

i was wonderin if rh8.0 supports network installs.
also, i wanted to install rh8.0, and its got 5 cd's - i dont know why its got 5 cds when rh9.0 has 3.
does anyone know if i can finish the install with < 5 cds?

thanks!

Those 5 cds include the source and binaries. RH9 has 5 cds too, with the source.

Id use RH9 though, as you'll get more up to date packages.

And I believe RH8 supports network installs.

As far as I know, Red Hat doesn't support network installs. As for the 5 cds, you only need the first 3 which are for installation; the last 2 cds contain SRPMS (source).

I don't know about later versions but earlier versions of Red Hat supported installation of just about anything, HTTP, FTP, NFS and SMB as well as the normal CDROM based installation. If Red Hat still let's you do this (and create installation boot floppies) then you should be able to do a network install. I can't say for sure though as I gave up on RH a long time ago and never plan to touch it again.
