I deleted all the partitions on my computer (they were really in a screwed up order), and tried to boot off my RH 7.3 CD. It goes to the first screen where i press enter, then it starts to load the installation stuff, but then it suddenly says: loading installer (or something similar)
loading /sbin/loader
installation exited abnormally: error 11 (or "something" 11)
killing
you can restart your compputer now.
Doesnt anyone know what the hell might have went wrong??
If this is a new burn, I'd guess that you have a bad burn. Otherwise, I don't know. There's a portion of the install where you can remove old partions, format, then install, so I don't think your removal of the partions should affect the installer.
This is the same problem I am having with both Mandrake 8.2 and Redhat 7.3. Not sure what the problem is because I had successful installations before with the same media.
i burned it twice because i thought the first burn was bad.
But... My video card is not supported in Linux, could that be the problem??? I got a SiS650. I installed my video card after i installed RH7.2 and had to dl the drivers for it to work. Now i took RH7.2 completely off my comp (i have the video driver on disk still), is there any way to get the installation to work with a different video driver or somethin'?
To the best of my knowledge, the video card specific drivers don't come into play until you are configuring X. As long as your card can display in plain ol' VGA mode, you're good to go for the install. If you're seeing the error on your screen when trying to install, then the card is capable of displaying in VGA mode.
Do you still have the CDs for RH 7.2? Try installing that again to see if you run into the same error. That would at least indicate a more global problem as opposed to an issue with the 7.3 cds.
Also, if you can, post the full text of the error message.
well sometimes out of nowhere that RAM gets f..k up....
I tried to install Redhat and mandrake to a pc this summer but noone told me that there was a problem with the RAM...
After a number of crazy errors " error reading cdrom" I found that one of the RAM's stick was problematic...
When the installation starts it loads the kernel in the RAM cause there in no hdd space ....... so you get a number of errors. if the RAM is not working...
i tried text mode and got the same error. I very much doubt that my ram is screwed up, its a new computer, i have installed Debian, FreeBSD, and redhat 7.2 just days before (not on the same day).
i tried installing RH7.2 on my computer and it worked just fine.
I tried installing RH7.3 on another computer and it worked fine.
This doesnt really make much sense unless they left something out (or added something incompatible) in red hat 7.3.
I am having similar trouble :-/ I was able to format the linux partition and install 7.3 but then i saw there was an updated release so...i download burn and try to install now it will not install 7.3, 7.2 nor mandrake 8.0 only thing that will install is windows......
Well there is something that Red Hat has done in 7.3. After I installed the os and was getting ready to make a custom kernel, I discovered that red hat has almost completely cleaned up the bloated kernel they allways seem to have. So there may be somthing that redhat took out of the kernel that you need. Just an idea....
