[B]RH9 seems to have a problem with some firewire cards - namely OHCI..(etc).

You could try:

linux nofirewire

Of course you'll have to ensure that something like kudzu doesn't get stuck looking for it on bootup....

That's it !!! Thanks
take the 'linux nofirewire' and your laptop will be installed with RH9

I was having the same problems installing RH 9 on my 8250, the answer is to go into the Ist boot screen and F2 to go into options.
type: linux lowres
This will stop the media check from hanging, I just skipped it after I got it to quit hanging, so I have no idea what it will do if you check the media.

I'm having the same problems while installing RH9 or RH7.2.
I'm trying to install RH Linux to PrimePC.
http://www.primepc.jp/goods_pc/pc00073.html

I disabled firewire, type "linux lowres", and so on, but it didn't work.

The symptom:
About RH7.2
The installer always hanged up after I chose the way to install, graphical, text, lowres, etc, at the first menu.
The last messages I saw were
Loading initrd.img...........
Loading vmlinuz............ready.

About RH9.0,
The installer always hanged up before I saw the graphical "Welcome to Red Hat Linux" view of the installer.
The last message I found before it freezed was:
running install.....
running /sbin/loader

Then the following message must had come, but not
Running anaconda, the red hat linux system installer - please wait...

Please help.

Well, I found the solution for myself.
It's very easy.
I succeeded to start installer of RH9.0 when I change the boot sequence ofthe devices and try fd boot. Unfortunately, the installer of RH7.2 still can't be worked.
But it's not problem. I will do my job at RH9.0.

I think I finally found the solution. I was trying to install SuSE and whenever i'd let it load USB-UCHI it'd die, just totally hang right there, and it was one of the first modules it tried to load - at any rate, RH8,9 both seem to load this, I tried typing "linux nousb-uchi" at the prompt, and so far, it has worked every time.
