Redhat for gaming servers

Hi,

Which version of Redhat is, in your opinion, the best for gaming servers?

I've noticed that alot of gaming server providers seem to use Redhat 7.2 rather than the latest 9.0, why would this be? I assumed the latest version would be better if anything.

Also, what optimizations would you recommend for dedicated gaming servers running Redhat?

tia,
Spookie.

The only gaming server I have an experience with is Half-life, so I can only speak based on that experience. I ran a Half-life server off of a minimal install of Slackware, without X, and with only vi and networking set up. Personally, if you have a dedicated server that will be doing nothing else, then install only the bare minimum that you need.

As for why no hosting companies are using RedHat 9? If it ain't broke, don't fix it. 7.2 was probably the release that was out at that time, so they installed it, got it working, and then decided there was no reason to upgrade.
