Angry REDHAT 8 gcc make problems

*sob* total newbie here...

I've been playing around with different distros just to see how they all kind of work.

I removed Apache 2.0.xx from my install and went to compile in 1.3.27 as I know it works with the specific site that I'm trying to port across and it wouldn't compile...

kept getting errors about /usr/local/lib (can't remember the error code) and KDE wouldn't install at all

Verified the MD5 sums and they all seemed happy.

On further inspection I couldn't get anything to ./configure make or compile in any form.

Is this a known bug or am I being silly about this?

Cheers,

Scotty

Well, we'll need to see the error first off. Second, you'll need to make sure you have gcc installed, along with binutils and other primary compiling utilities.

It's hard to make even an educated guess on your problem with what you've said. We need more info

Welcome to LQ

*grin* true...
have rebuilt the system about 10 times over the weekend with different params each time (and in each case checking gcc and all bintills compilers etc present)
silly boy me never actually bothered logging any of this!

error was something along the lines of warning: changing search order for directory "/usr/local/include" as it has already been specified as a non-system directory

tried to set the environment variable so it's included there, but that didn't seem to have any effect at all (in fact it displayed as

./(v.v. long compiler path)/../../../../../usr/local/include

btw... thanks - think I might stick around!

So KDE wouldn't even install during initial system install? If this is the case, maybe it's a medium error. Did you run an MD5 on the iso's after you downloaded them (assuming this is how you acquired RH)?

No, it verified fine on MD5 sums - didn't check the physical disk for errors, but am redownloading to see if it happens again. Will also redownload the md5sums
