Red Hat auto-mounting

How do I make Red Hat 8.0 mount the cd-rom and floppy drives the same way Mandrake does. Mandrake automatically unmounts and ejects the cd's when I push the eject button on the cd-rom's cover. Mandrake also mounts the floppy drive when I change to /mnt/floppy, and unmounts the floppy disk after each use. How do I make Red-Hat do this?

Look for something called Supermount. This is what Mandy uses. Here's what google/linux provides:

So, do I add that to /etc/fstab? I tried to copy the /mnt/floppy and /mnt/cdrom lines straight out of the /etc/fstab on the Mandrake machine, but that didn't work. What should it look like if it is to be added to fstab?

cool feature

Don't recollect RH having such a feature. AFAIK removable media file systems *can* be auto-mounted, but *can't* be auto-unmounted.

Please do tell if it's otherwise. I would be glad to know more about this.

In Mandrake, the floppy is auto-unmounted everytime I change directories from /mnt/*, and after I have copied data to it. Can I download supermount as an rpm, and how do I add it to /etc/fstab like it is in Mandy without making Red Hat freak?

To be completely honest, I don't like that feature. I have come accustomed to using the "eject" command to get my media out of the drive. I actually like this because it makes me leave the directory in which the disc was mounted.

And while I am being honest, I really don't know a whole lot about how it works. I do believe it's a kernel patch, so you might have to do a little "playing" around first to get it rolling.

I would definitely follow this how to as it seems to be the most complete:
http://hints.us.linuxfromscratch.org...supermount.txt

Cool
