Recomended Linux Distro where everything works out of the box?
 

Hi all..

Well, I've been dabling in Linux on and off for about 4 years now...

Most recently I got Slackware working with a P3 550mhz Pentium pc..
It took a while and a lot of reading, but everything worked...

Now I have Fedora 5 on my Nforce 3/250 with 100 gig maxtore IDE drive, 512 pc3500 Kingston ram
Sempron 2600 overclocked from 1.6 to 2 Ghz. ATI 9250 128 meg AGP card. NEC 35500a Dvd/RW burner.
Can't get ATI 3d drivers to work on it..

The billion dollar question is:

Is there a Linux Distribution out there that I can intsall right off the bat with ATI 3d support and actually support for my Nforce 3/250 set up where all the drivers will be installed durring the inital intsall of Linux?

I don't mind easy, though I did learn at the time a lot about Slackware..

I did have Kubuntu installed on a NF2 MSI board, but I had to give that pc up, so I did not do much with Kubuntu..

I can recommend Ubuntu as a "out-of-the-box-working" distribution. The best such distro I've seen this far. And the 3d display drivers..you probably won't get them in a normal installation on any distribution (?), since they're 3rd party, non-open-source drivers, and you usually have to obtain them from the manufacturer's website (ATI or nVidia) and install manually. However, Ubuntu offers a working (!) fglrx driver for ATI cards newer than 8500, and it actually works (I tried). Man, and how easily..for nvidia, I'm not sure but I could think it just might be the same?

the only one i can think of is pclinuxos, its the only one i can install then just instantly start using, flash, ati drivers, codecs, mplayer firefox plugin etc its all there :)

I would say MEPIS it was perfect for me,
as u say out-of-box working everything did.
And again it's debian! like ubuntu!
i also think there was a pretty easy ATI configure tool but i might
be wrong...
