question on linuxmint 3.0
Hi All,
I wanted to look at another distro, so downloaded LinuxMint 3.0. I understood the description to say it used the gnome DE, but it sure looks like KDE to me. I am way new, but that is how it looks. Can anyone tell me if 3.0 can be found with native gnome DE, or will I have to go with an older version to get gnome? Thanks for any help. |

Are you looking to stick with Debian based Distro? If so, no reason not to try a pure Debian install. I just installed Etch on my laptop the other day, and its familiarity to someone with Ubuntu experience is great. I did the Net install, and it took about 40min. If you like Mint, I really don't see why you couldn't install the regular gnome desktop, but I'm not sure how you'd go about that. IGF |
Thanks for the reply.
I am very much the NOOB, so still looking for a newbie friendly distro. Would you describe Etch as newbie friendly? Ubuntu is the only distro I have spent any time with, and I grew to really like the DE. No reason I can't play with another a little longer. The Linux Mint reminded me more of Windows, where Ubuntu looks completely different, which was OK by me. Thanks again. |
