Post RH8.0 Upgrade "problems"

I have a box that Started its life as a RH 7.2 box then was upgraded to 7.3 now finally upgraded to 8.0. For the most part life has be fine. But I have experienced a couple of problems that I hope I'm not the only one to experience.

The first is between the upgrade of 7.3 and 8.0, I converted and installed around 200 Mac Type1 fonts. They worked fine, once I got them into my font path. The app I want to use them in is GIMP. After the upgrade to 8.0 I did not see the fonts in GIMP (or other apps). I have been able to get load the fonts into OpenOffice.org, but that uses a separate font mechanism (doesn't it?). I found notes on using chkfontpath --list to list the font directories that xfs is using. This is where I hit my second problem - when I su to root, my path does not include /sbin or /usr/sbin! I can work around the path problem - once I find where the executable I want to run lives.

So, in a nutshell:

Fonts have disappeared from apps - chkfontpath --list shows the correct paths to the fonts
When I su to root - my path does not include /sbin or /usr/sbin
Any suggestions? Are there any config files anyone wants to see?

James.
