Please sugest me a Distribution

I have a laptop (Toshiba Sattelite M30X) With Pentium M, ipw2200BG, Ati Radeon 9600...

I need a distribution witch I can just surf the web with my IPW2200BG, it must support Pentium M, I also want to hear music (I'm a DJ) and nothing much... It must be fast as Gentoo, with good hardware support as SuSE and as simple as Slackware.

Can you sugest something ?

Thanks

Erm, well Gentoo, SuSE + Slackware would work on that laptop once you had your wireless configured from http://ipw2200.sourceforge.net/ (though not sure how you claim Slackware to be easy!)... All will let you listen to music + watch DVD's with the correct plugins installed. None will run encrypted DVD's or Windows media files out the box. It's your choice really.

It almost looks like you are pulling our leg. Slackware is anything but simple. (Maybe you meant simple in that it does not contain "excess" packages and applications running in the background. In that case I would agree. I would not agree in terms of being easy to install or use.)

SUSE is not that slow in my opinion. Any slowness I have seen attributed to it is due to the KDE or GNOME desktop, and that would be pretty much true of any Linux distribution. Using a lighter desktop or window manager will speed it up considerably.

Uh, well seems like Knoppix is again the right answer. I have configured and used the wireless connection in Knoppix 4.0...sence everyone I know says I'm a dumba@@ if I can do it anybody can...again this is a live cd so when you turn your computer off everything you did goes away..you may have to type fb800x600 at the boot prompt but probably not..it will probably just work.....If possible use knoppix 4.0 but if not 3.7...suse live also works as does slax live...both with the ever popular KDE desktop....all are free as a download...if you don't have wideband email me at jrczz@hotmail.com with your street address(snail mail) and I will mail you a copy...

Well maybe arch linux is what u want. It's supposed to be as fast as gentoo (just a bit slower probably) and as simple (or simpler) then slackware. It has good hardware support for my hardware but you should see yourself if your hardware is supported.
Plus, it's package manager is as good or better then apt from debian.

I heard of many people who use arch on their laptop as well.

It supports pentium m.

Try it: www.archlinux.org

If you need help ask on the arch forums but first look at the VERY helpful wiki on their page.

If you like slackware, why not try ZenWalk Linux? It is based on Slackware and has a nice package manager. Also take a look at simplymepis.

For SuSE to have a good multimedia support, you have to fix it. http://susewiki.org/index.php?title=...iMedia_Support

After if, as DJ, you want to do professionnal audio work, you must have a multimedia or realtime kernel, and some patches to fix the priorities of both the hardware and the audio group at boot time.

SuSE doesn't have a such kernel, neither the patches. I would try Agnula, it have all of that, a huge selection of audio software, is Debian based, and with apt-get you can install the most of the debian apps.
