I am planning to install Linux. I don't know which one to pick.
I noticed that there may be more commercial software for RedHat, such as BEA Weblogic. Will Weblogic run on SuSE or Debian? What about other software?
I am going to be using this with a girl and she cares mostly how it looks. She wants an OS that looks nice. Personally I am more concerned with features and ease of use, but that is me. She wants something that looks pretty.
Also, be warned that WebLogic Server Release 4.5.1 is certified and supported by BEA only on Red Hat Linux using the IBM Linux JVM 1.1.8. (The reason? The IBM JVM uses native threads.) While we didn’t encounter any problems installing and using WebLogic Server on a Slackware Linux 7 system, we wouldn't recommend going against the BEA guidelines for a production-grade installation.
Next: Using JDBC Connection Pools
You can customize Linux with all the chrome you want, but, it's not terribly easy to use. Fortunately, there are great resources like LQ.
Might want to take a look and search in the Distro forum, as this is asked and answered all the time. But for your question, I would suggest just trying out a few, all of them you can make pretty as they can all use the same software and desktops.
