pc idle & black screen appears..
 

do you have any idea how to remove to black screen that appears if you leave the pc idle ?

everytime I see a movie it just gets that black screen and I have to move the mouse.

I used to have the same in slack,redhat, but I used to get rid of it by updating the kernel and reconfiguring it (I think)

Now use suse8. Do you know where that option comes from ?

Do not tell me its a screensaver its not, I checked the options of the screensavers..

That sounds like APM (power management). Check your BIOS to see if there is an option to disable that -- at least when you are watching movies.

I think is something like that ....

I think I have it both disabled in the kernel and the bios..

Well I disable the APM thing from the BIOS...
and the kernel and I Still get that black screen....after half an hour I think....

Anyone manage to disable it??? Suse8 is on me drive.

Check to see if the apm daemon is being started by your list of services at boot time.

If apmd isn't running, and you've disabled power management elsewhere, I guess that your monitor has a power-saving feature of its own; check its setup menu.

no.... I don't think its the monitor...I haven't change the options. . .

BTW there are some processes that are listed in the

ps -aux

command that are inside a parenthesis and always are listed at the top.

eg.
[name1]
[something]
[else]

Well if if you look through the forum there is a post about /proc, and some pointed out a page that tells you the importance of the /proc and /dev.

If I am not mistaken, it said that the items between brackets are proccesses used by the kernel. I am not sure though.

I don't know about SuSe, but Slackware has a 'setterm blank' of 15 minutes built into init, but that wouldn't effect its behavior in X. If you're talking about X, please ignore me, but if this is normal command line annoyance, grep through init for setterm.
