Partitioning problem in fedora
Hello Linux Community !!
I have a problem . I have 20GB HD , while installing Fedora 7 . I had chosen the option to delete all partitions and after that install newely . but after installation i saw that i have only one partition right now on which fedora is installed . isn't there any way without deleting my fedora or erasing my HD again i get two partition outta one?? Thanks!! |
the installer will normally let you manually set up the partitions. If you let it do it automatically, then I think it simply takes the whole disk.
You can re-size the existing partition, and then create new ones in the empty space. Re-sizing must be done from "outside" the partition to be re-sized--eg from the live CD or other bootable Linux CD. The Fedora7 CD (or DVD) should have a tool like Gparted or QTParted. You can also simply re-install, select manual partitioning, and set things up the way you want. The "getting started" link below will take you to some more stuff on partitions. |
Unable to understand , can you teach me each step clearly understanding me as a n00b!
Would be great & appreciatable!! |
first, let's be clear about the objective: You want to create one or more new partitions---yes?
Boot the computer from the Fedora CD or DVD, select "Live Linux, "Run from CD" or something similar. When it is up and running, look in the menus for something that does partitions--it might say simply "disk management". Let us know what you find. If you get stuck and don't get help here quickly enough, download "GParted" and burn to CD: http://gparted.sourceforge.net/livecd.php |
