optimal distro for iBook?

Hello

I intend to install linux on my iBook. I already tried with gentoo, worked fine, but later I dropped the idea, and changed back to OSX. Now that I used OSX for some time, i saw, that it really sux (cant handle many open windows at once quickly, and I have loooong idle times, when switching from, say, firefox to mail back and forth, or when quickly scrolling on huge websites)

My problem is, that I can't decide, which distro is most suitable for my needs (browsing, listening to music, mail, chat, dev, some networking (analysis, server))

I heard YDL is nice for G4 processors, or debian should do the job, or (my fav) gentoo. The problem is, my iBook has 800 Mhz, so if I want to compile kdebase... Well yes, you can imagine.

I heard debian should do the job fine, but maybe YDL is more optimised for PowerPC (as it is only for those CPUs as far as I know)

Can anyone tell me something about one distro, that may help me with my decision?

Thanks

raven

there is slackintosh... but it's development has ceased... i believe the last one was based on slackware 9.1, never used it though...

Ubuntu is debian-based, with more up-to-date software and is very user friendly.. You might find it nice...

CRUX is nice.. but it's another source-based... Mandriva(mandrake) has a PPC port... I would say try Ubuntu, Mandriva, Debian, Fedora and Yellow Dog, and see which one *you* like best... good luck :)
