only yast at suse root login

I got this problem with Suse 9.1 Personal:

When I login in X as root, only Yast control center appears.

If I close this, the session ends.

Logging in as user, all works correcty, but I cant'd do root actions, such as copying files into usr directory.

how to correct this? thanks
