Okay, just finished a fresh install of RH9. As logging in as a User, I get a meesagebox saying coudn't connect , something like that, then "add x1-6-00-05-5d-d2-1e-44 to /etc/hosts and this may correct the problem.
Now allI know about etc/hosts is that its not a good place tp play around in if you are not 100% sure of what you ae doing.
This is an ASUS A7N8X-X MOBO and it appears to have found the second nic card which is a DLINK 538TX.

Rep:
here is my /etc/hosts file as an example
# Do not remove the following line, or various programs
# that require network functionality will fail.
#mcc ips, adjust as necessary
192.168.36.7 beau405
192.168.36.6 beau520c
192.168.36.5 appletalk
192.168.36.4 beauclient
192.168.36.3 beautower
192.168.36.2 beauperforma
192.168.36.1 beauserver
127.0.0.1 beautower localhost.localdomain localhost
127.0.0.2 beautower localhost.localdomain localhost
64.107.54.6 mcclab
64.107.54.12 mccA100
64.107.54.7 mcca123
of course you will not have all of these
but i'd add a line
127.0.0.1 x1-6-00-05-5d-d2-1e-44
in the /etc/hosts
Thaks for the info but it didn't fix the issue. Getting very frustrated with RH as a few weeks back I installed Mandrake 9.2. Not only were there no login problems, but it properly detected both the DLink and onboard 3Com NIC cards. Unfortunately MD92 has its own batch of issues.
