New Distribution Being Developed
Hola,
Am developing a new Distribution called Angelico Linux. It shall redefine the way persons look to Linux Operating Systems. The Daemons, or Eudaimon processes shall be converted to a "Priestly Exorcist" spirit, & configured via the user upon installation, easily altered later. A person could perhaps call it a "Muse" or "Grandpa Clarence", or even "Dios' Helper" if they so elected. At that point, the "Priestly Exorcist" or "Sacerdote" processes would reference the "d" to be a linguistic "de" type system reference, & total references would replace with that name. Angelico Linux is focused on supporting the Christian Linux Community specifically, though there shall be various "cooel" features to see for yourself. Gracias. |
Mmmm...weird. I suppose if you're adding yet another distro to the 300+ that already exist, you have to do something strange to make it stand out.

looks like a prank to me!
Un saludo |
Unfortunately, I suspect it's not a prank;)

Hola,
Actually, am quite sincere. The Distribution is with great patience & effort arriving to fruition. Am working vigorously to achieve goals & have proven various contacts with different community leaders with patience & persistence attempting to get recognition & the proper resources acquired. If anybody would enjoy assisting with the projects' development, please send contact via the user information provided within the user forum & have patience for the website to be totally developed & hosted. Gracias. |

Hola,
As has proven personal discovery with Linux Kernel Developers & particularly "Debian" with concern to "Ubuntu Canonical", Daemons are a terminology that Open Source Linux Developers add to Open Source Software that Linux distributes. If a person reads the copyright information in the exim-heavy package, the term "Daemon" is not originally applied and the personal goal for Christian Open Source Software development is to essentially create a Linux compatible Operating System, though to reconvert the good Open Source projects to a more Christian name. So far the term "Domino" appears most suitable for the circumstances. Gracias. |

'Daemon' is widely used and understood. Changing the name is bound to cause problems with the wider community, and I'm guessing its due to the similarity of 'deamon' to the judeo-christian 'demon'- Quote:
If you really want to change names over similarity to 'demon', you can, but its not going to make anybodys life any easier..... |
And "dominoes" used to be a popular game played by old men in pubs here.

I seem to recall there were other distros that did more or less the same thing. I won't knock you for this, it's no more or less useless of a reason to make a distro than hundreds of the existing distros. As long as you feel there's a need for it, I wish you the best of luck.
As far as important information about your distro other than "I'm changing the word daemon to something that doesn't sound as close to demon..." 1. Are you using a package manager? If so, which one? 2. Are you creating this entirely from scratch, or are you basing it upon another existing distro? 3. Are you going to have repos or is this a "what you get is what you get" and you have to build it out yourself (ala Slackware)? |
I am a Christian and a believer but for the life of me I do not understand how changing 'deamons' to 'angels' and 'init' to 'archangel' or 'gabriel' would make a difference to Christians or linux or any other person in this world for that matter.
Let me give you an idea here - since winduhs is the most popular desktop system why dont you ask them to change the names of 'mbr' to 'genesis' and the 'desktop' to 'revelations'. Religion and technology make a bad mixture. If you are indeed trying to do something for the Christian community I would rather have a Bible with all the commenteries and lexicons possible. It should work on CLI as well as a GUI. I want the Bible to be the standard KJV version. In CLI I would like 3 panes - one for the Bible second for similliar verses or verses with similliar key words and in the third pane I want a find function where I can find verses with keywords I type. If you can do that rather than baptizing (sorry for using the term here) the same processes with different names - you are just wasting time and effort. |
