Talking Need help doing linux

Basicly I am going to make a Divx set-top box that you can hook to your TV and watch Divx incoded movies on. I want to know how can I customize linux to do this for me. It will need to operate the CD-ROm dirve, easly update it to the current version(s) of DIvx, operate the TV-Out video card and start up quickly I could go into more detail what it would need to do but I first want to know how can I start doing it. Thanks.

You can get a program for playing avi's, and some special windows *.dll files here:

http://www.mplayerhq.hu/homepage/info.html

You can get rpms for another player called Xine here:

http://enigma.freshrpms.net

Note that Xine can use the same *.dll files that are provided on the mplayer site
