Need a Cool Live CD
Hi, I'm looking for a "cool" live cd that can give me following...
1) Being able to save settings on HD. (Unlike Damnsmall Linux which you have to select video modes and stuff everytime you load it). If there are any avilable. 2) That has a good GUI. (Ex. I saw screenshots of Mandrake move) 3) That doesn't take a lot of space on RAM. (If this is possible) 4) That would work without trouble on a very old computer of P 166MHz 64 MB SD Ram 1 MB Video Card Serial Mouse No PS ports (Special cable for keybard. Works fine with Mandrake, Damnsmall, peanut, Gentoo, and Phat) I don't know if it is possible to meet all my demands :( But atleast if I can get some of it, it would be cool. :D I really don't care about how big the distro will be on a CD. |

I tried damnsmall. which is based on knoppix. But isn't it the same thing?

Uh, no. Knoppix is a whole other animal. For one thing, Knoppix is big, really big. It's an 'everything but the kitchen sink' kind of live cd. It also comes with a half dozen window managers as compaired to DSL's 1. By default Knoppix boots into KDE 3.1.x, which is a very heavy duty desktop environment. Your computer would crawl with KDE. You'd have to tell it to boot using something more lightwieght like XFCE or IceWM if you want to get any use out of it.
Frankly I'd recommend Morpix 0.4-1 LightGUI for your specs and wants. http://am.xs4all.nl/phpwiki/index.php/Main-lightGUI Their main page is here: http://morphix.sourceforge.net/modules/news/ |
I like Slax - it is based on Slackware. I have always had good results.
