modem idle timout settings in SuSE
Where can I modify the settings for idle net-connection timouts in SuSE 8.2???
When I have dialed up to the internet, I get a timeout every so often where the system kicks me off the web if I haven't been actively searching and disconnects the modem connection. I get the log message that says: "terminating due to lack of activity..." and then I have to re-dial. I'm using kppp for dial-up. What do I have to change to get the system from stopping the shut-off of dia-up services??? PS It's not my ISP. This problem is unique to SuSE. |
I had the same problem when SuSE first set up wvdial for me. I think that in many European countries you pay for local phone connections by time. So SuSE disconnects idle dial up connections.
I do not know how to correct the problem in kppp. This HOWTO may explain how to fix the problem: http://www.linux.se/doc/HOWTO/PPP-HOWTO/tools.html |
Just use kinternet, it will not timeout. I wish SuSE included a way to disable the timeouts.

Thanks,
I noticed kinternet is nicer for not timing out,... but I'm not used to it... I guess I'll have to change if I want reliability. |
I wish SuSE would give us the option of disabling timeouts.

I've been using kinternet for the last few times, and although it is a pain to configure, it does hook up nice and painless-like. I just miss my kppp though. I got so used to using it. One dialer is the same as the others though.
