Mini distro with GUI Application

Hi,

I want a mini Linux Distro which can be booted from PEN Drive (Fat Partition) and able to run small customized GUI based application.

I have small project wherein I want to develop small GUI based application which will read & write parameters from text based (INI) file.

The OS will not display any desktop and there will not be any other applications. The OS will boot & start my application and on exit it will shut down. There should be provision for network drivers so that I can read/write text file from remote Server.

Also please suggest light weight development environment for GUI development which is very fast and don't require any additional libraries.

Regards,

Ravi

Hi Ravi. You can try Linux Mint for that. Get it here: http://www.linuxmint.com/download.php

No problem if you use the liveCD version for any linux. It runs on bootable media (e.g. DVD, or bootable pen drive). For Mint, here's a good ol' link: http://www.livecdlist.com/linux-mint

KDE is a good option for Windows users to make GUI-based applications. As you said, lightweight, try XFCE or Cinnamon DE.
All the best for your project.

Hi Subhdeep,

linuxmint which you have suggested is full OS occupying nearly 700-800 MB. I am basically interested in mini linux which takes 30-40 MB and contains kernel & minimum files required to boot the system & run my program. I also don't want any desktop to be displayed, just my application, so XFCE or other desktop is also not required.
