So, i have been running linux for about a year now, reinstanned a few times, but never had this problem
Once i re-installed this time (Debian Woody 2.2.19-reiserfs installation disks) i got the error that LILO cannot install to my MBR.
I tried the /boot partition trick but that didn't help either.
Has anybody had that problem and what causes it.
My drive did not crash, did not loose data, just that i cannot boot from it and i have to use a boot floppy to bring up the system.
I haven't seen it do that personally. Was this a firsttime install of Woody? If so, you may want Potato as Woody is still in development and considered unstable. Just a thought. Otherwise, the MBR could be corrupt. See if'n you can't wipe it out and start fresh. If the drive is older, it could be that too. As new as it is, it shouldn't have problems with the 1024 Cylinder limit.
Originally posted by CtrlAltDel Maybe that will make the difference as i am also missing /boot/boot.b and /boot/mbr.b
That could do it. I assume you've already tried reinstalling LILO? Maybe going back to the non /boot before 1024th Cyl. would help and then reinstalling. Maybe reinstalling the whole LILO package to make sure you get the files you need? Good luck either way...
