Angry Mandriva or Fedora

Hi,
i have got AMD athlon 3000+ processor, 256 MB RAM,80 GB Hard disk, an internal TV tuner Card integrated in MSI motherboard. I was using windows XP. But now i want to make a switch to LINUX. I have got two distros of LINUX which are MANDRIVA Linux 2007 for desktops and Fedora 7. As i am new to Linux which version would suit to my need???

Hi and welcome to LQ.

The best solution would probably be to use both distros on a trial period and then stick with the one you like the most.

Either one? Why don't you try both and see which you prefer?

The definitive answer to "Mandriva vs Fedora?" is: "Ubuntu or Mepis"

Or perhaps PCLinuxOS, which is now #1 on the "hit list" at distrowatch.com

All seriousness aside, the point is that there are at least ten really good choices these days--the differences between any of them may not be important to you.

You can do more research at distrowatch.com---or perhaps simply use a dart board.....

More advice (all serious) in the "Getting started" link below.....

Mandriva,of course !

Uhm..i've installed and used many distros before choosing the ones good for me..i personally suggest you mandriva 2007,it's the best one for me and with a good hardware recognition and can let you install many programs from the dvd and work naturally by itself without problems, fedora 2007 can't paly some video formats and mp3 if you don't download plugins from internet..so ...MANDRIVA !!!

GOOD LUCK!

let me know if you have problems

Cheers

Another Vote for PCLinuxOS,

http://ftp.nluug.nl/pub/metalab/dist...glish/preview/
ftp://ftp.nluug.nl/pub/metalab/distr...glish/preview/

This is the distro I use and recommend, Why because it works right out of the box. No need to configure Everything, everything just works. It also comes as a 1 CD install that is a live CD that you can install later if you wish.

Cheers

Jake

I'd suggest trying a few livecd's until you find one you like. It happened to me with elive I orignally downloaded it to try it out for a spare computer and ended up installing it on my main desktop :P
