Mandrake Vs. Debain

How does Mandrake compare to Debain ? Does the Professional version of Mandrake 9.1 have all the same applications as the 7 CDs of Debain latest stable version does ? If not what are the differences ? Thanks.

Well for starters, MDK is regarded as relatively easy to install, while Debian is anything but. MDK is consistenly recommended as newbie-friendly, whereas Debian is considered a distro of experienced Linux users since it does absolutely no hand-holding.

On the other hand, once it's installed, Debian is known as the distro with the package management system.

There are also some newbie-friendly ways to install a Debian-based system. Libranet, Knoppix, and Mepis Linux all are Debian-based distros that offer fairly simple installations and which can be used to create a full-fledged Debian install using apt.

Well no. Mandrake will have much newer versions of the packages than Debian Woody (stable). Beyond that I don't have the resources to tell you which of the thousands of applications involved they do and do not share. From the looks of it, Debian has a couple Gigs worth of packages on their cds that Mandrake does not include, but most of those packages are ones you will never need or want.

Completly different ballgame.
Debian is made for stability in the regular release. They don't care about the newest gadgets (or hardware).
Mandrake is easy to install and has the newest gadgets.
