Mandrakesoft has filed the equivalent of a U.S. Chapter 11, but in the French court system. That gives them the room they need to reorganize their debt and come into the profitablilty that Mandrake 9.0 is beginning to point them.

There's nothing to see, just move along.

I just brought the 9.0 Power Pack, and I can tell the cds and guide will be worth it, as my 56K wouldnt be able to cope with the vast amount of data contained within them.

I too believe that this is just a reorganization strategy for MandrakeSoft,... and that the 9.1 distro will be released on time and up to date,...

However, I am not going to put all my eggs in on distribution's basket, and will explore the feasibility of switching over to SuSE if a problem continues.

I currently run Mandrake 8.2. Has anyone had the experience of switching from Mandrake to SuSE??? If so, was the transition relatively painless or was it a hassle. Does SuSE support driver modules in the same fashion as Mandrake (particularly, nVidia drivers)???

I want to avoid RedHat, I understand that they manipulate the KDE and Gnome GUIs way too much. I'm not switching yet (or definitely at all), but would kind of like to know what the water is like in the SuSE pool... I just want a contingency plan in case Mandy goes belly up... however unlikely.

Well, nvidia drivers have been the reason for me to change from SuSE to Mandrake... Since the install of the rpms was a bit... unstable... I decided to try something new. In fact, it works, and with newest special SuSE packages from nvidia.com, it _should_ work properly...

Mandrake is just the easy way... i like it!

What's wrong with the generic drivers that were auto selected when I installed, and work fine?

Are they they commercial drivers with full OpenGL support, or are they the lackluster DRI drivers that only get you the 2D desktop???

The nVidia drivers offer full hardware 3D acceleration, plus some other bells and whistles depending on your card's chipset.
