Introduction to Linux - A Hands on Guide
This guide was created as an overview of the Linux Operating System, geared toward new users as an exploration tour and getting started guide, with exercises at the end of each chapter.
For more advanced trainees it can be a desktop reference, and a collection of the base knowledge needed to proceed with system and network administration. This book contains many real life examples derived from the author's experience as a Linux system and network administrator, trainer and consultant. They hope these examples will help you to get a better understanding of the Linux system and that you feel encouraged to try out things on your own.

hi im totally new to linux. i wanted to get outta the micro$oft world so i jumped ship. my first attemp at linux (mandrake 8 and 9) were pritty unsuccessful. mandrake is decent but a little too complicated for me. then i tried lindows which was horrible since it was way too easy and i could do anyhting like install new drivers. then came lycoris build 46 and i must say im almost satisfied. i have a few issues that i was hoping u could help me out on:
1) my sound (sb live) doesnt sound good in xmms. i dont kno how to explain it but it sounds a hell of a lot better in windows. im thinking that it needs updated drivers but i dont kno how to do that.
2) sound pops wen opening folders, going to websites, etc. it does this sometimes. just more annoying then anything
3) cant for the life of me get AMSN to run. I NEED THIS PROGRAM. although kmerlin does the job it pales in comparison to amsn.
4) computer freezes completely and i gotta reboot wen i have a lot of apps open.
and thats about it right now. i was hoping that if i install build 66 my sound drivers would be updated and i could run amsn, wat do u guys think i should do.
