easy to find out

POSIX is an acronym for "Portable Operating System Interface", is a family of standards specified by the IEEE for maintaining compatibility between operating systems. POSIX defines the application programming interface (API), along with command line shells and utility interfaces, for software compatible with variants of Unix and other operating systems.

Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, a no profit professional organization dedicated to technological innovation.

Their constitution defines their mandate as a Scientific and educational bunch dedicated to the pursuit of electrical engineering, electronics, computers and on and on ad infinitum.

They create definitions for equipment and software that are adopted by the industries as a whole. Whether this is a good thing or a bad thing is unknowable - only time will tell, but so far so good.
