Depends if you are looking for dirvers for GFX and Wlan or not (if you are, than look for archbang, crunchbang and mint)
If you want fast sistem than choose archbang and avoid Ubuntu and Mint.
If you want plenty of features look for Ubuntu and Mint.

somethink like that, first, check what is working on your computer.

Opensuse is very good choice. It is flexible, you can choose what desktop you want, it has great gui "control panel" called yast. And it has good and large software repositories.

I think OpenSuse 12.1 + KDE is best distro i have used.

It depends on why you want to shift. If you want to stay with KDE, you might like OpenSUSE or Fedora. If you want something lighter, Archbang is good but not beginner-friendly. For what it's worth, in my reviews I rated them out of 10: Fedora 7, Ubuntu 4, OpenSUSE 6, Linux Mint 9, Archbang 6.
