Linux Mint - Resetting the Menu

I keep installing software through synaptic, but majority of what I install is never listed in the Menu.

Is there anything I can do so the menu would be re-built to include all installed programs?

Maybe not all of the programs you installed are GUI-programs? Text-based applications are not shown in the menu.

I don't think so, an example of a program I installed is 3D-Chess

Have you tried to right click on the main menu button and check out the option "menu settings"?

yes, I did the right click and I could select/deselect apps, but even in there, many of my installed apps were not listed for me to be able to select.

Since you have not mentioned the Desktop environment you are using, I have attached below the screenshot of what I get on right clicking the main menu icon and then clicking Menu Editor on KDE!

When you click on the New Item on the top of the window shown below, you can actually add the software you want, look closely!

Now its your turn to look for such option in the desktop environment you have!

You may have to create the menu item yourself. The executable of the programs you installed should be in /usr/bin or /usr/sbin-- you can check the installed files by selecting the package in Synaptic and viewing "Properties".

sorry about that, but I believe mine is GNOME. And one more thing - I'm actually using a dock with the cairo menu, so I had to go in as root user to right-click.

Is there a problem/question/answer in that statement?

well, as I was saying earlier, right clicking on the Cairo Menu on the does doesn't do anything.

I don't know what is cairo-menu, whatever I said is bound to work with default main menu of Kde or Gnome!
