Linux for Dell 640 M laptop

Hi,

I earlier tried out Ubutnu linux 7.10. However, faced problems with it regarding my wireless LAN card which is based on a BCM4311 chipset broadcom.

Which distrbution of Linux supports networking drivers for this card without any modifications ?

Thanks

Hadrdware is supported by the kernel, not the distribution. As far as I know, 2.6.22 has the support for your card. You should probably get a distro that uses this kernel. Look on http://distrowatch.com/
If not, I heard this card works nicely with ndiswrapper.

The kernel drivers are flakey at best. Always had best luck using ndiswrapper.

Ubuntu 7.10 has support for that card. You have to enable it from the restricted drivers manager.

Fedora 8 does as well, though you have to do a little work to make it work.

I normally would agree with ndiswrapper being better, but I haven't had a single problem with these methods.
